RAINY DAY ACTIVITIES IN NEWQUAY

If there's one thing we can guarantee you during your holiday in Cornwall, is that the weather is never guaranteed!

Particularly during the winter months; while we do enjoy our fair share of beautiful sunny days the weather can really take a turn for the worse – so it’s a good idea to be prepared for all eventualities! In the event that you get caught out by a Cornish wet spell during your holiday with us, here’s our guide to keeping the kids (large and small!) entertained in our town.

Newquay Aquarium

We’re big fans of our local aquarium, which provides a great half-day out for people of all ages. The attraction starts in Cornish waters, with a wave pool enclosure that allows you to see what is going on underneath the surf that lies a few hundred metres beyond the aquarium. Another favourite feature is the undersea tunnel (pictured) that gives you a bottom dwellers eye view of the main enclosure with turtles, sharks, eels and more! It’s well worth checking the website before you go to time your visit with some of the talks and feeding schedules – our favourite talk is the Octopus talk which takes place daily and is utterly fascinating.. no spoilers here!

Newquay Zoo

When in Newquay, if you listen carefully you can hear lions roaring… a strange concept for a Cornish coastal town! But absolutely true. We are extremely lucky to have an exotic attraction like Newquay Zoo right on our doorstep. On the 13-acre site, you’ll find a wealth of different animals from mammals and birds to reptiles and amphibians, set in various indoor and outdoor enclosures – perfect for those ‘four seasons in a day’ weather days that are so typical in our region. What’s more as a registered charity and rare species breeding programme, your visit to Newquay Zoo contributes to their important work in education and biodiversity. Check the website as you may need to plan ahead and buy your tickets in advance!

Pirates Quest Adventure Golf

Discover Cornwall’s pirating past with a visit to Pirate’s Quest. This attraction combines mini-golf with an immersive and interactive experience that tells the story of Eighteenth Century Cornwall. Choose to descend into the depths of Davy Jones’s locker or pick the safe passage, either route will entertain kids of all ages in an all-weather attraction with some education merit. Check their website before you visit as your timeslot may need to be booked in advance, and when the weather takes a turn for the worse, Newquay pirates’ seek shelter!
